Why Support The Shakespeare Company

Through Shakespeare’s life work, we have been given so many literary gifts. His stories are timeless and reflect our humanity – no matter which century we find ourselves in. Our mission is to use the works of William Shakespeare as a catalyst for producing unparalleled artistic and educational programs that are evocative and inspiring for the city of Calgary.

Box office revenues do not cover our annual operating costs and rely on the generosity of our many donors and sponsors. Please consider donating our company as we continue to forge a path for exciting Shakespeare and Shakespeare inspired works supported by local Calgary talent.

Your Donation Matters

In 2019, box office sales contributed less than 40% of our operating budget. Over 60% of our income relies on donations, grants and sponsors to support our initiatives. With the uncertainty around production spaces and no ticket sale revenue, your support becomes even more important. Here is where your support goes:
  • Making Shakespeare accessible through innovative performances and inspired directing – giving our local actors award worthy roles to tackle & people like you an affordable high-class production.
  • Giving students in Calgary and area the chance to see Shakespeare performed live – the way it’s meant to be. With our Outreach Program putting on 50 minute productions in schools, students gain a deeper understanding of the text which helps them find success in the classroom. We also work with local teachers to bring classrooms to the theatre where students experience full-scale productions.
  • Supporting local emerging artists the opportunity to work and perform in full-scale, live productions of Shakespeare – setting them up for future success.
