When That I Was...
'An Entertainment' by Edward Atienza and John Mortimer Directed by Vanessa Porteous Starring Christopher Hunt "I have immortal longings in me..." Meet the last surviving player of Shakespeare's acting company, Jack Rice. Once a boy-actor, cast as some of Shakespeare's greatest heroines, Jack is now an old man. Today, on his birthday, Jack has taken shelter from a storm in a theatre that's been closed by the Puritans and converted into a barn - the very theatre where he first met Will Shakespeare and began the greatest adventure of his life. Jack is transported back in time and takes one last audience on a journey to the past, recalling the pleasure and pain of a players life, and giving a unique look into the life and plays of "Uncle Will".
