Season 15: Now is the winter of our discontent...
Season 15 finds us at the doorstep of a brave new world. Our move into The Studio at the Vertigo Theatre Centre was met with great success and thriving audiences; with the critically acclaimed production Macbeth playing to sold out houses. Now we turn our ambitions to even greater conquests as we continue to set the standard for classical theatre in Calgary.
Who better to exemplify the qualities of ambition than RICHARD III. In this final chapter of the dramatization of Englands 'War of the Roses' Shakespeare's sadistic crookback villain reveals a lust for power equalled only by the wicked delight he takes in destroying all who stand between himself and the English crown.
In his foreward for the publication of THE QUEENS by Normand Chaurette, Peter Hinton describes the play as "a mystery; a mid-winter night's dream...insistently poetic and strangely ambiguous, yet always alluring." Taking its inspiration from the Queens in Shakespeare's Richard III, this play conjures a dreamlike journey through time where secrets, politics and ambition reign supreme.
The Shakespeare Company hopes you will join us for our most ambitious season yet as we consider just "How sweet a thing it is to dream upon the crown..."
